We had an awesome response to our first “Our Community” post when we met Adele from Butter and Co.

This week we met the lovely Emma from Blush Bar. Blush Bar has been a long time favorite in Geelong and after calling Pakington Street home we are now lucky enough to have them as neighbors just a couple of doors down. I was in having my hair styled last week and thought I’d take the opportunity to a good chat with director Emma who is not only a super star beauty babe but also a legendary business woman too!

Sara : I have been a long time fan of Blush Bar and even Blush before it was Blush Bar! For the budding beauty babe bosses out the tell us about when and how you started the amazing world of Blush?

Emma : Where do I start! My makeup journey started in 2001 as a freelance makeup artist specializing in bridal makeup. Skip a few years and I grew from me, to a team of 7  servicing bridal parties in Geelong and surrounds with their hair and makeup requirements. Although I loved freelancing it soon became apparent that we needed a ‘base’ to call home. I pondered on this for a while and soon took the leap of faith to create a space where women of all ages could come, relax, have a glass of complementary bubbles whilst the team got them red carpet ready for all special occasions. I have such fond memories of getting ready with my girlfriends and wanted to recreate this in our space. Creating Blush Makeup Cosmetics was also a labour of love and a natural progression for me which started as a small boutique line of cosmetics that has over the years grown to include over 60 different lip colour shades! One of my additions along with shoes!

Sara: Your shop front with its gorgeous pink branding is synonymous to this Newtown end of Pakington Street, we really don’t need to go anywhere else! What is your most sought after service and why do you think it is such a winner?

Emma : Our most popular service is our blush-me-up signature service. This 40 minute service aims to highlight and glamify everyone no matter their makeup tastes.  It was really important to me to be able to create a service that was accessible to everybody. I wanted to give everyone that wedding day feeling of looking into the mirror and being totally in love and at ease with the final look, without the price tag. Yes, we have options to add false lashes or just have a smokey eye done, but our signature service is just that. Our signature.

Sara : I notice that you are hosting the Pamper Room at the upcoming Geelong cup which is exciting. What trends are you seeing in the hair and make-up space for the upcoming racing/events season?

Emma : Our Pamper Room has been a popular addition to many corporate functions and we are thrilled to be on board as a Platinum Partner for Fashions on The Field and offer our services with the Pamper Room this year. We will see a lot of sophisticated glam both with hair and makeup styles. Daytime looks need to be softer and more refined; so think glowy, flushing cheeks, and medium toned lips. False eyelashes will again be a glamorous addition to any look, and we will no doubt see some ahhmazing head pieces that will literally turn heads.

Sara : Blush Bars, Color Bar and Beauty Passes sound like fun as do you Blush it Yourself Make Up Workshops. Can you share with us exactly what the Color Bar is and also when the next scheduled workshop is?

Emma : We have recently introduced the Colour Bar to Blush Bar – where not only can we style your hair for special occasions, but now can cut and colour as well. With our highly experienced hairdressers we can literally be your one-stop-shop for all things beauty. Our hair colour services have been packaged to include toner, treatment and a deluxe blowout and are not dependent upon thickness or length so there are no nasty pricing surprises. You can easily choose your package and simply book online.

We have also just launched our extremely popular Blush Bar Beauty Passes that are a monthly membership. For the cost of those lattes we can have you looking and feeling amazing without the worry that it will break the bank.

Our BIY ‘Blush It Yourself’ workshops are a look and learn workshop hosted by myself and senior artists. You join us for an evening of makeup and bubbles where we demonstrate step-by-step instructions on creating quick and achievable looks at home. The real kicker is that the evening is redeemable for product so is a great way to bring some additions into your makeup bag that you will ACTUALLY know how to use. Our November evening is sold out but have tickets still available for Tuesday 3rd Dec 6-8pm.

Sara : A little birdy told me that your passion lies in both beauty AND business, as a Hall of Fame member of the Chamber of Commerce Geelong Excellence Business Awards what would be your top three tips those running beauty businesses?

Emma:

  1. know your numbers
  2. plan, plan and plan again!
  3. never stop learning

Sara : Finally just for fun, what has been your worst ever beauty fail ?

Home dying my hair a wonderful shade of purple! Epic beauty fail for me!!

A big Thanks to Emma for sharing a little bit about the business which is Blush Bar. Another thanks to Mel from Blush Bar who is pictured above giving me a gorgeous blow wave for a recent photo shoot – nailed it Mel !  Visit Blush Bar website here to experience all things beauty. We look forward to many years of blow drys, styling and make up in the coming years.
